A series of illustrations done as a commission for the Guernsey Tourist Board to celebrate the life and times of Victor Hugo in exile on Guernsey.
I did 6 paintings in watercolour. My favourite of the bunch is Hugo’s epic ‘Toilers of the Sea’ where the hero Gilliat is wrestling an octopus off Sark after his ship crashed onto rocks.
Victor Hugo in Guernsey
Victor Hugo lived on Guernsey for 15 years and created many masterpieces during his stay including ‘Toilers of the Sea’ and ‘Les Miserables’.
It was a fantastic project to be involved with and the paintings are used as part of a fascinating microsite you can visit here.
The microsite was created and animated for Guernsey Tourism by TPA.
